Welcome back to our weekly WWE SmackDown hits and misses series where we recap all the good and bad from the show.

Hit – He hears voices in his head

2009 Orton wouldn’t have thought he’d listen to the WWE Universe sing his theme song. Speaking of 2009 Orton, we might see the infamous punter make his return at WrestleMania 41. Orton vowed he’d take KO’s head off his shoulders because the voices in his head want him to punt Owens. This was a solid promo between both men to kick off WWE SmackDown.

Miss – McIntyre once again stands tall on WWE SmackDown

Nothing to take away from Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest, both are incredible performers in their own right. That said, this writer isn’t a fan of this feud heading into WrestleMania 41. A title program would’ve, arguably, been far more interesting. WWE had LA Knight versus Drew McIntyre on a silver platter, but it appears they didn’t want McIntyre in the title picture for this year’s WrestleMania. Drew’s promo before Rollins headed to the ring was fantastic though.

Hit – Charlotte Flair owns Tiffany Stratton during split screen interview

Marks on the internet didn’t enjoy the segment, it seems. Tiffany looked a bit nervous but that adds to the storyline as she’s the underdog champion. Charlotte was heads and shoulders above Tiffany in the promo. She truly looked like a veteran with her commanding presence. This writer wanted Tiffy to retain at WrestleMania but seeing this split-screen interview has me second-guessing the outcome.

Miss – Piper Niven vs. Zelina Vega on WWE SmackDown

Why can’t they just book Piper Niven to squash Zelina Vega? Piper clearly has the strength and size advantage. Zelina may be the babyface but, at least, maintains some semblance of realism. Piper crushes nine times out of 10 in the ring. With Alba Fyre as the third member, WWE has the opportunity to set up a solo run for Piper.

Hit – Jade Cargill vs. Liv Morgan

We got Liv-a-Lisa before GTA VI. Wild! WWE camera guys had a great shot of Liv running towards Jade at the sound of the bell. Liv carried Jade to a solid match. Naomi’s interference was bound to happen but this wasn’t the time to give Jade a pinfall loss. A DQ ending would’ve, arguably, been better. Let’s see if Nick Aldis books Jade Cargill versus Naomi for WrestleMania 41 next week on WWE SmackDown.

Miss – Braun Strowman vs. Jacob Fatu on WWE SmackDown

The controversial ending ruined this match for me. WWE is clearly building Fatu versus Solo for WrestleMania but they could’ve given the win to Fatu to set up the U.S. Title match with LA Knight next week on SmackDown. Ideally, Tama and Solo would’ve interfered next week watering the seeds for Fatu versus Solo for WrestleMania.

Hit – Triple Threat Preview ft. CM Punk, Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns

A heated verbal exchange before things went south for these three men. Some observers called Punk vs. Rollins vs. Reigns a throwaway match because of their apparent lack of history. I guess he gets minus five stars for this garbage of a take. The Shield was Punk’s brainchild with Chris Hero as the muscle of the group. Glad Roman took that part and knocked it right out of the park but why did everybody take turns pointing at the WrestleMania sign?!
