-- Below are various WWE news and notes coming out of Friday's Smackdown, as per fightfulselect.com:

  • WWE President Nick Khan was backstage at Smackdown with it being a show at Madison Square Garden.
  • World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest was scheduled to wrestle in the dark match main event against Jey Uso but was unable to make it to the show due to travel issues that he went public with on social media.
  • WWE was said to be internally "very happy" about the ticket sales for Smackdown at MSG.
  • There were "We Want Dijak" chants at MSG prior to the show, alluding to the former WWE star who the company chose let to walk rather than re-sign.
  • WWE sources noted that there was frustration among many backstage over the heavy censorship and editing on Smackdown. One wrestler stated privately that the show is a "chore to watch sometimes" due to it feeling like every segment is edited, making it seem like it's a WWE production issue when in fact, it's FOX's editing.
