WWE Crown Jewel Review

WWE Crown Jewel is in the books!
WWE’s latest Premium Live Event went down at the Mohammed Abdo Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 2. The line-up featured seven matches but only six were contested as the bell never rang for Kevin Owens versus Randy Orton.
Before we get to the actual review, I’ll give a thumbs to the Saudi crowd for bringing so much arena to the arena. Their involvement really turned this, I’d say, otherwise mediocre PLE, around.
Now, let’s dive right into the review.
Six-man tag team match at WWE Crown Jewel

This opener looked more like a glorified house show main than a PLE attraction. The action was mediocre at best with Jacob Fatu being the MVP from this match-up. The referee bump was hilarious. What was the purpose of that, because it didn’t affect the outcome of the match?!
Check out what Big E had to say about Solo’s Samoan Spike on Roman Reigns here. The post-match angle featuring Sami Zayn was, in my opinion, the best part from The Bloodline act at WWE Crown Jewel. It seems the seeds for Survivor Series have already been planted.
Women’s tag team title fatal four-way match

This was a really good women’s tag team title match where every participant made the most out of the opportunity. Lash Legend brought her A game to this match-up using her strength and size to full advantage. IYO SKY’s athleticism is just unreal. Piper Niven pulled off some brilliant moves but ended up taking out her own tag team partner, Chelsea Green.
I wasn’t expecting Bianca and Jade to retain the titles but here we are. WWE seems to have dropped a little bit of spoiler as it pertains to the next challengers to the Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Seth Rollins vs. Bronson Reed

These two spent weeks trying to destroy each other in the lead-up to this match. The action was chaotic with both men trying their best to keep each other on the ground. Reed overpowered Rollins on multiple occasions but the Visionary spammed curbstomps to put away the big man. Reed stated in a post-match interview that the feud is far from over. Good, because I want Bronson to come out of this feud as the winner.
Nia Jax vs. Liv Morgan – Women’s Crown Jewel Championship match

The weakest match of the night, in my opinion. Nia and Liv lack chemistry. Tiffany Stratton’s cameo was the best part of the night. The Saudi crowd wanted Tiffany to cash in (so did I) but WWE Creative didn’t pull the trigger. In all honesty, Stratton pinning either Nia or Liv and becoming a double champion (remember the big a** belt that’s going to stay in Saudi Arabia) in the process would’ve been huge.
Randy Orton & Kevin Owens battle it out at WWE Crown Jewel
The match never got started because KO attacked Orton with a chair before the bell. Both men brawled through the crowd before entering the ring, where Orton took out Adam Pearce with an RKO. Check out Nick Aldis’ epic reaction to his RAW counterpart getting hit with the iconic move here. Orton would ultimately fall to an elbow drop from Owens, who barely walked out of the chaos. SmackDown this Friday is going to be interesting.
United States Championship triple threat match

I was excited for this triple threat, and safe to say that these guys didn’t disappoint in the slightest. LA Knight brought his usual energy to Saudi Arabia. Carmelo and Andrade displayed their brilliant chemistry. These two superstars had some of the best matches on WWE television this year. The final spot where Knight used Melo’s own momentum to drop HIM and Andrade on their heads with a BFT was so well done. Another successful title defense for the Megastar as we move towards Survivor Series, YEAH!
Cody Rhodes vs. Gunther – WWE Crown Jewel Championship match
Click here to read the full match result.
The main event of the night saw Cody Rhodes and Gunther collide in a Champion versus Champion match to determine the inaugural Crown Jewel Champion. This was a display of technical brilliance meshed with Gunther’s signature hard-hitting chops. The ending was a callback to one of Bret Hart’s best WrestleMania matches. Let’s see if Goldberg has anything to say about the conclusion to Rhodes versus Gunther after what the Ring General said to him at Bad Blood.
