Tony Khan explains the challenges of making AEW Grand Slam Australia a PPV in the US.

In August, AEW announced they were making their debut in Australia. The company are set to hold AEW Grand Slam Australia at Suncorp Stadium on February 15, 2025, in Brisbane. This will be the fourth country they have broadcast from, after the US, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Tony Khan spoke with the media ahead of AEW Full Gear and was asked if Grand Slam Australia would be PPV or TV taping. The AEW President didn’t answer outright, but heavily hinted that the show wouldn’t be broadcast on PPV. He said that logistics due to the time zone made it difficult. However, he said that tickets are selling well and hopes to do more shows in Australia going forward.

“We're very excited to make our debut there. We've sold thousands of tickets in the market, and it'll be a great debut for us in Brisbane. Hopefully, it will be the first of many shows down there.”

“As far as how it's going to run, I think it will present some challenges in terms of the timing of the event and the time zones, especially when presenting it as a conventional pay-per-view here domestically. That's something to keep an eye on.”

“One of the great things about our media rights deal now is the opportunity to have our TV shows, as well as streaming specials, available. All of the Dynamite and Collision episodes will air on TBS and TNT, respectively, but they're also going to live stream on Max, which is really exciting. I think it's a great opportunity for AEW.”

Tony Khan: Time Zones Present Some Challenges For Grand Slam Australia

“Grand Slam Australia is set for Q1, and it's going to be one of the major AEW events for sure. It was part of the big live events announcement. Of course, we announced some TV shows as well. It'll be a little bit of a different cadence for us, going to Australia versus a normal TV week, but it'll be a great event.”

“Everyone is going to be able to see it. I think the time zones present some challenges, especially when asking everyone to pay as a pay-per-view for that. But it's definitely something we're going to make available to our fans here domestically.”
