Jake Hager Shares How He Got the Name 'Jack Swagger' In WWE

There have been several stars in the world of professional wrestling who have wrestled in both WWE and AEW. One such star is former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jake Hager. He recently shared how he got the name ‘Jack Swagger’ in WWE.

While speaking on the Going Ringside series of News4JAX The Local Station, Jake Hager shared that it was former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon who gave him the name ‘Jack Swagger.’ Hager revealed that the reason was because McMahon felt that his smile would piss people off. Thus, he would be a good heel.

"Jack Swagger came about because I smiled at Vince [McMahon]. And he said, 'Man, I hate that smile.' And so, I immediately wiped it off my face. He's like, 'No. No. Keep doing it. It's going to piss everyone off.' And I kind of had some wild hair then. I had a little bit of a reputation with the ladies. And so, the next day, I was told I was Jack Swagger from Vince himself."

Jake Hager on his All-American American gimmick in WWE

The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion was one of the biggest heels in the Stamford-based promotion. During the same interview, Hager reflected on the All-American American gimmick. He also thanked veterans such as Tommy Dreamer, Finlay, Matt Hardy, Christian, and many more who helped him play the heel.

"I just had someone told me that they hated me so much as a kid. I was like, 'Great. I was doing my job.' Lucky, I had friends in the company and they saw the potential and what I could become. I was very green to wrestling even in 2009 when I was doing my All-American American gimmick. Had great people to work with. Hall of Famers, Tommy Dreamer, Fit Finlay, Christian, Matt Hardy… Guys that could take me into a ring and we could have a five-star match and I could listen," Jake Hager said.
