WWE provides an update on AJ Styles after he suffered an apparent injury on WWE SmackDown.

Styles made his return on the October 4 episode of WWE SmackDown. He had been absent from WWE programming since June, though he competed at several live events over the summer. Styles was confronted by Carmelo Hayes on Friday night, and they clashed in a singles match. “The Phenomenal One” seemingly suffered an ankle injury during the match, and the referee called it off. Styles was later shown in the trainer’s room, and the broadcast team noted that he had been taken to a hospital.

In a tweet, WWE’s Jackie Redmond announced that AJ Styles had suffered a “mid foot ligament sprain”, also known as a Lisfranc injury. Redmond noted that Styles would have an MRI later this week to determine the severity of the injury.

Further details are unclear at this time. WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
