Luna Mertins from Lynn broke her own NCAA record in the women’s 100 fly during tonight’s final, swimming 51.78

Mertins, a 5th year, broke the previous record last month at the Sunshine State Conference Championships when she went 51.85 becoming the first Division II woman under 52 seconds in the event.

Her time tonight was just a few hundredths faster, coming in at 51.78 to win the event by almost two seconds over Mellie Wijk from Drury.

At last year’s Championships, Mertins was the runner-up in the event at 53.27. She last won the event at the 2022 Championships when she went 52.19.

Mertins swam the 50 freestyle yesterday, where she finished 3rd overall, and she still has the 100 free and 100 back to compete this week.
