Neil Robertson, snooker’s greatest ever non-British player, has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division.
Similar to the MBE, the OAM is the highest civilian honor that can be bestowed by the Australian government. Robertson was named today (Sunday) on the Australia Day 2025 Honours List, receiving the award for services to snooker.
Originally from Melbourne, Robertson moved to the UK and first turned pro in 1998. In 2003 he became World Under-21 Champion, then three years later landed his first ranking title at the Grand Prix. The best moment of his career so far came in 2010 when he beat Graeme Dott in the World Championship final, becoming the first Australian to conquer the Crucible and only the third non-British player, after Cliff Thorburn and Ken Doherty.
Robertson went on to win the UK Championship in 2013, 2015 and 2020 and the Masters in 2012 and 2022. He has had four spells as world number one, and the 42-year-old has 24 ranking titles to his name, including this season’s BetVictor English Open. Between 2006 and 2022, he enjoyed an amazing streak of winning at least one professional title every year.
One of only four player to make over 900 career centuries, Robertson made over 100 in a single season in 2013/14, the first to achieve that feat. He has compiled five 147s, including one in the UK Championship final in 2015 and one at the Crucible in 2022.
WST and WPBSA said in a statement: “Our congratulations go to Neil for this outstanding and richly-deserved award. He has been a tremendous player at the top of the sport for over 20 years and is popular across the world for his personality and style of play. He has also been a great ambassador for snooker and a credit to his country. Well done Neil Robertson OAM!”
