Murphy Makes Magical Masters Maximum

Shaun Murphy became the fifth player in the 50-year history of the Johnstone’s Paint Masters to make a 147, with a fabulous maximum during his semi-final against Mark Allen.

Just two days after narrowly missing out on a 147 during his quarter-final with Neil Robertson, this time there was no mistake from the Magician as he completed a maximum in a Triple Crown event for the first time.

Leading 3-2, Murphy potted all 15 reds with blacks, keeping near-perfect position throughout, and cleared the colours to bring the Alexandra Palace crowd to its feet. He joins Kirk Stevens (1984), Ding Junhui (2007 and 2024), Marco Fu (2015) and Mark Allen (2024) as the only players to make a 147 at the Masters.

It’s Murphy’s ninth career maximum and he becomes one of only five players to reach that tally, behind Ronnie O’Sullivan (15), John Higgins (13), Stephen Hendry (11) and Stuart Bingham (9).

The world number seven will bank the £15,000 high break prize unless the 147 is equalled. And he is halfway to a bumper £147,000 bonus, needing one more maximum either this weekend or at the World Championship. Any player making two maximums across the majors this season will earn that bonus.

This is the 210th 147 in snooker history and eighth of the season.
