Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes squash their beef backstage
Following the fight, the PFL lightweight champion shut down any potential of a rematch with Hughes, stating that the Irishman would need to pick up a few more wins again.
Despite that, after months of bad blood between the two, they seemingly squashed their beef backstage after their fight.
“Great sport, bro, great fight, great atmosphere, very special,” Hughes told Nurmagomedov backstage.
“To be honest, in Dubai, great atmosphere, I hope next time we will fight same event…” Nurmagomedov replied.
“In Belfast. Come on, in Belfast,” Hughes said as the two began to laugh.
It is unclear who both fighters will fight next especially considering some recent exits from PFL, however, it is unlikely that they will immediately rematch.
Conor McGregor reacts to Paul Hughes’ loss to Usman Nurmagomedov
Someone who was firmly integrated into the beef between the two camps was former UFC double champion, Conor McGregor.
After Khabib Nurmagomedov trashed Irish MMA, it reignited his feud with ‘The Notorious’ who told Hughes that he would be in his corner if things kicked off.
Fortunately, though, the Irish superstar was otherwise occupied and wasn’t in attendance in Dubai. Despite that, he did share his reaction to Hughes’ disappointing loss.
“Tremendous fight and performance! Easy with for Hughes, he DOMINATED THAT FIGHT. And (Usman) exactly what it says on the tin, a Nurmagomedov. Runner, sprinter, botler, scarper, scurrying ‘fighter’. The Nurmagomedov’s are not fighters,” McGregor tweeted on X.
