It's happening.

Reigning UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones (28-1, 1 NC), will be defending his 265-pound strap against current interim titleholder, Tom Aspinall (15-3), "this year," according to a "very confident" UFC CEO, Dana White.

And it won't cost him $30 million.

"We're in the works, we're talking on it," White told Jim Rome. "I've said that I'm very confident that fight happens this year. Nothing's holding it up, it's just a matter of getting it done. It's not as easy to put these types of fights together that people think they are. They take time — but we'll get it done."

That's guaranteed!

Despite his emphatic victory over former 265-pound kingpin, Stipe Miocic, the 37 year-old Jones is no longer the favorite to defeat Aspinall, several years younger than "Bones" at 31. On the plus side, Jones appears to have revived his mystique at UFC 309.

Simply put, don't trip over your own two feet trying to board the Aspinall hype train.

UFC typically reserves big-money fights for International Fight Week in Las Vegas, held every year in early July. The promotion's annual stop at Madison Square Garden in New York City is also an option, assuming White can get Jones to put pen to paper.

Time will tell.
