One week after UFC 309, the promotion chose to interrupt the UFC Fight Night: Yan vs Figueiredo broadcast this morning in order to share one final goodbye message to the consensus greatest heavyweight champion.
It's a shame that the career highlight video was broadcast during UFC Macau and not the enormous PPV event last weekend; although fans were thankful that the promotion did finally share what was a fitting send-off for a truly legendary athlete.
UFC Macau broadcast interrupted by emotional send-off to Stipe Miocic
During the broadcast of UFC Macau this morning, the promotion opted to interrupt the show with one final goodbye message to the legendary former champion and future Hall of Famer.
Stipe Miocic exits the sport as not only the consensus greatest heavyweight champ in the history of the promotion but also as one of the most beloved fighters to have ever competed in the octagon.
The farewell video comes one week after Miocic was viciously knocked out by Jon 'Bones' Jones in the main event of UFC 309 thanks to a picture-perfect spinning back kick to the body.
Whilst fans are delighted that Miocic was able to get his own recap video, many of the comments and replies are extremely critical of the UFC for not having the package ready last weekend.
Stipe Miocic shares heartfelt goodbye message as he confirms retirement
A few days after his third-round KO loss to Jones, Miocic would pen a heartfelt message of his own to both his family and fans, confirming that he's hanging up the gloves for good.
"Let me start this post by saying I am good. Been through a lot worse. I hope everybody enjoyed the show on Saturday," he stated, before acknowledging that his clash with Jones was "an incredible way go out!
"I started this journey fighting in local bowling alleys & ended it selling out Madison Square Garden. It truly doesn't get better than that… Sorry I don't get the W, but you can't get em all. Sometimes it's not your night, that is the nature of the beast.
"You can't plan a perfect ending in this sport, but I guess the perfect ending is to have been lucky enough to do it at all."
Miocic would thank his friends, family members and global fanbase for sticking with him through thick and thin; with a short word given to his extensive list of former opponents: "To my opponents, thank you all. I learned something from every single one of you. It was a honor to go to war brothers."
"And finally to the fans, you guys are the heartbeat of this sport. You are what makes the MMA amazing! Without you, we fighters don’t even exist. The rush you gave me walking down to that octagon is forever engraved in my memory! Thank you for that."
