The UFC’s two heavyweight titleholders have been locked into a rivalry that could culminate in the biggest fight of 2025.

Despite only defending the heavyweight title on one occasion, Jon Jones could be on his way to becoming the longest-reigning titleholder in the history of the division.

He would reach this milestone if he truly does want six months to prepare for interim champion Tom Aspinall as was recently reported about Jones.

With Jones being told to vacate the title if he’s not going to unify the belts against the Brit, things have gone fairly quiet on this front despite some positive signs here and there.

Aspinall now has another proposal regarding him going head-to-head with the consensus greatest of all time having recently made his presence felt inside a WWE ring.

Tom Aspinall proposes a faces vs heels tag team match with him, Cody Rhodes, Jon Jones and John Cena

During the WWE’s stop off in Manchester last year, WWE champion Cody Rhodes brought Tom Aspinall down to the ring inside the same building where he stopped Curtis Blaydes to defend his interim title at UFC 304.

The heavyweight knockout artist hopes that this won’t be the last time that he steps through the ropes and whilst he acknowledges how hard it is to be a pro wrestler, he seemingly wants to give it a shot at some point.

With both the WWE and the UFC being under the same TKO banner, the potential of a crossover isn’t totally unrealistic and with that in mind, Aspinall has a pitch.

April 21 sees Rhodes defend his title against John Cena who recently turned heel in his retirement year to set up the biggest match of the year at WrestleMania 41.

In a recent interview with The Schmo during UFC London fight week, Aspinall joked that they could combine the biggest match of 2025 with the biggest fight of 2025 so that he can join back up with ‘The American Nightmare’ to take on an all-star team of Cena and Jones.

“That’s my retirement plan. Cody Rhodes is my guy so yeah, me and Cody, we will have a match one day. I think we might team up because we’re both baby faces aren’t we, me and Cody. Maybe we could fight like Jon Jones and whoever the heel is over there, who’s the main heel? Well John Cena just turned heel so Cody Rhodes, Tom Aspinall, tag team versus Jon Jones and John Cena. Baby faces versus heels."

Tom Aspinall has been perceived by the fans as the baby face

In the case that pro wrestling terms are lost on you, being a baby face means that you’re presented and treated by the fans as the good guy whilst a heel is the bad guy.

Throughout his rivalry with Jon Jones, Tom Aspinall has most definitely been perceived to be the face.

Just like in the case of John Cena’s heel turn, it’s not that fans don’t have respect for the career that he is set to call time on in the near future, but Cody Rhodes is the new star on the block who is delivering what the fans want to see.

The dynamic between the two heavyweight titleholders is a combination of Aspinall winning the crowd over as the new top guy whilst Jones has fallen somewhat out of favor due to his conduct in recent times.
