Although Dana White is showing no signs of slowing down as the UFC CEO, interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has named the one former fighter he would like to see replace White when he retires.

Tom Aspinall is currently sitting on the sidelines, waiting for the culmination of the UFC 309 main event between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic to see if he will end up fighting the winner to unify the title.

When the fight was announced, the interim champion revealed that he would be there as a backup, just in case either fighter withdrew on fight week, however, that is highly unlikely considering how long it has taken for it to finally come to fruition.

Although he doesn’t have a fight booked for the December 7 event, the British champion is in fight camp holding out the hope that he will be needed.

“What’s the plan (for fight week)? Turn up, do some media, cause a few scenes here and there, and try and make the winner stick around and fight me hopefully. You know what I’m really interested in, how both guys look in the fight, that’s really interesting for me… I wanna go up close and see how these guys look in live action,” Aspinall admitted on his YouTube channel.

Also keeping his camp light-hearted, Aspinall answered some quick-fire questions regarding fellow UFC fighters.

After answering which UFC fighters he would pick to save his life, become an actor, and more, he was asked which fighter he thinks could replace Dana White as the UFC boss.

“Chael Sonnen, that’s what I think would be a great replacement for Dana White,” Aspinall joked.

Since his retirement from competing in combat sports, Chael Sonnen has continued being a favorite amongst fans through his pundit work for ESPN and his hot takes on his YouTube channel.

Fortunately, though, as White has admitted several times, he doesn’t think he will ever take a full step back from being involved in the UFC, and if the UFC’s recent documentary, ‘Fight Inc’ showed the fans anything, it is that Hunter Campbell will make for a tremendous replacement.

Chael Sonnen believes Tom Aspinall will face the harsh reality at UFC 309

Despite being complimentary of Sonnen, the former UFC title challenger recently had some pretty disappointing words for the interim champion.

With Jones and Miocic’s recent inactivity, Aspinall is widely regarded as the true champion in the heavyweight division despite his status only being interim champion.

However, Sonnen believes that Aspinall must face the harsh reality come December 7, as when Jones and Miocic step into the Octagon, he believes everyone will forget about the interim title.

“Is Tom Aspinall aware that when he comes out with the (interim) title for any interviews that he does moving forward, the moment that bell rings, whoever is opposite is no longer the champion? The fans and the media think if Stipe beats Jones, there’s a new champ. But the reality is, the interim belt fades the second Jones and Miocic face off,” Sonnen claimed in a video on his YouTube channel.
