UFC London is in the books; with one promotional veteran revealing that he's now entered free agency, despite scoring a monumental underdog win.
UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs Brady was a shockingly poor night for English fighters, who went just 3-6 across the preliminary and main cards – many of whom had entered the O2 as the bookie's favorites.
Physically speaking, the biggest upset of the card was Marcin Tybura's unanimous decision win over then-undefeated juggernaut Mick Parkin – unfortunately, there's a chance that UFC London could be the last time we see the Polish veteran inside the octagon.
Marcin Tybura confirms UFC London was 'last fight' on contract
Heading into UFC London, the majority of fans were predicting that Parkin would defeat Tybura, with approximately 62% of Tapology Community Picks going in favor of the Englishman.
However, the nine-year promotional veteran proved too savvy for the rising contender, utilizing his experience and a wider array of weapons to out-strike Parkin en route to a solid unanimous decision.
At the post-fight press conference, Tybura revealed that he'd now officially fought out his UFC contract and is set to enter free agency.
"Actually, yeah, for sure I want some fight, right now [my focus] it's a little bit more of the recovery because Mick is a tough guy and gave me a little bit of damage.
"But today, my contract with the UFC ended. That was my last fight so right now, I'll be hoping to get a new one."
The Polish powerhouse, who retains a 14-8 record in the UFC, acknowledged that "This fight was about proving that I still belong in the top 10 and that I have so much [still] to offer."
Tybura has been stop-start of late in the UFC, dropping results to Tom Aspinall and Serghei Spivac, but scoring impressive wins over Tai Tuivasa and Jhonata Diniz in return.
When asked if he's in talks to renew his UFC contract, Tybura simply stated that he's leaving the negotiations to his team: "My manager will do all the job, and I trust him with everything, I'm pretty sure he's working on it."
Marcin Tybura’s UFC record is a who's-who of renowned heavyweights
Heavyweight is one of the shallowest divisions in the UFC, and as one of the more well-known fighters still active, there's a good chance that Tybura's wish for a contract renewal will be granted.
Yet at 39 years old, there is certainly a possibility that the promotion will opt against re-signing their 22-fight veteran, who has experienced his fair share of ups and downs inside the UFC octagon.
Tybura lost his UFC debut in 2016 against Tim Johnson, before going on a three-fight run that included a highly impressive win over former champion Andrei Arlovski.
Then came the Poles 'dark age' – losing four of his next five fights, including brutal TKO losses at the hands of Derrick Lewis, Shamil Abdurakhimov, and Augusto Sakai.
Tybura bounced back with five big wins in a row, the best of which being TKO wins over Greg Hardy and Walt Harris, before running into Alexander Volkov in 2021.
The popular heavyweight then scored two decision wins over Alexandr Romanov and Blagoy Ivanov, before his infamous KO loss to Tom Aspinall in 2023: followed by Tuivasa (win), Spivac (loss), and Diniz (win).
