Sydney Sweeney is undergoing a major transformation in order to play a legendary world champion boxer.
Women’s boxing icon Christy Martin is set to be the subject of a major biopic, with A-Lister Sweeney attached to portray her in the story. And after receiving a barrage of hateful comments about her looks, the actress has hit back, literally, with a photo showing her gruelling training regime.
The film is currently in post-production, but details about the release or even a name are being kept under wraps by producers. However, Sweeney has been spotted at various fight events, and is known to be a fan of both boxing and the UFC.

Sydney Sweeney shows off intense boxing training schedule
After a week of abuse online following paparazzi photos showing her in a bikini, Sydney Sweeney decided to show off just how hard she has been working on her new movie. The 27-year-old shared a slideshow of the rude messages, before showing off her training camp for the film.
She appears to be taking the movie as seriously as a fighter would take a big bout, and is going through all the necessary training. She can be seen in the series of photos shared to Instagram in the gym undergoing strength exercises as well as practicing her choreography for the fight scenes.
Sweeney also was spotted punching the heavy bag and lacing up her gloves, while getting comfortable with the inside of the ring. The actress is known to attend fight events, and was famously seen cageside at UFC 288 last year for Aljamain Sterling’s bantamweight title defence against Henry Cejudo.
Sydney Sweeney will portray Christy Martin in biopic
Little is known about the upcoming movie, but Sweeney has had to undergo a dramatic change to become Martin. The boxing icon competed 59 times before the days of Katie Taylor, Claressa Shields and Amanda Serrano making millions as female fighters.
She won WBC gold in 2009 after a lengthy career that included legendary fights with Deirdre Gogarty, Holly Holm and Laila Ali among others. Now, she will be the subject of a film starring one of the world’s most recognisable actors.
"Over the past few months, I've been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman – a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring,” Sweeney wrote on Instagram earlier this year.
"Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I'm honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all."
