Irish superstar Katie Taylor retains her undisputed Super Lightweight world championship titles with another hard-fought victory over Amanda Serrano… But the co-main clash wasn't without its controversial moments.
The legendary Irish boxer was met with boos and jeers from the AT&T Stadium crowd as she earned herself a unanimous decision victory, despite having had a point deducted over her repeated headbutting.
Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano go the distance in controversial co-main clash
Two years after putting on one of the greatest fights in women's boxing history, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano went to war once again in the co-main event of tonight's boxing bonanza out in Arlington, Texas.
Serrano was locked in from the opening bell and was quickest out of the gate, badly rocking Taylor with a thunderous punch with just a few seconds to go in the very first round.
However, as Taylor battled her way back into the contest, the fight took its first turn towards controversy when a clash of heads, instigated by Taylor leaning in, resulted in a nasty cut being opened over Serrano's eye.
A couple more head clashes later, and Taylor was deducted a point; to the eyes of many, that deduction was expected to be a death sentence to her chances of retaining the belts.
Yet the judges sitting ringside, who had already been under fire once tonight, all scored it the way of Taylor with the totals reading 95-94, 95-94, and 95-94 in favor of the defending champion.
Katie Taylor slammed over repeated headbutting of Amanda Serrano
Even after Katie Taylor had a point deducted, she still leaned in with her head for those wild exchanges, with the broadcast quick to include one of Amanda Serrano's coaches from ringside.
"She's so dirty, she leads with her head man, she's such a nice person outside [the ring] but when she goes in there, she's so dirty," berated the incredibly frustrated trainer.
"A lot of her opponents have been cut and headbutted, she leads with her head man," the coach continued, even going as far as to claim that intentional fouls were "her best attribute."
In regard to the cut that was opened over Serrano's eye, the coach acknowledged that "it's bad" as he continued slamming Taylor for what he perceived to be an ongoing issue throughout her career.

"It's bad, it impairs your vision, but Amanda is a warrior, a little warrior coming up fighting the so-called best in the world and all she can do is f**** headbutt and hold… That's why she got a point taken off, right now I believe we're ahead."
The commentary team was also shocked that Taylor got the decision win, with Mauro Ranallo even going as far as to state that Serrano was 'robbed' of the victory.
"Wow, no – you know what, Texas has always been a cauldron of controversy, and I cannot sit here and – it's just, you cannot take anything away from Katie Taylor and her legacy but my god, how does one rob Amanda Serrano after a performance like that?!"
According to the official fight statistics, Serrano out-landed Taylor 324-217, with the percentage landed also 44% to 41% in favor of the Puerto Rican.
