UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey is back in the gym and working with a former rival she finished in 14 seconds.
Ronda Rousey, during her prime, was one of the most dominant forces in combat sports. She set the standard for the women’s bantamweight division and women’s MMA in general during her Hall of Fame career.
While some fight fans might remember Rousey mostly for how her career ended, with back-to-back losses to Amanda Nunes and Holly Holm, many forget the highlights of her UFC tenure. This includes a feature in the first all-female UFC main event against Liz Carmouche at UFC 157.
Rousey dispatched many intimidating rivals during her 12-fight unbeaten stint in Strikeforce and the UFC. The Olympic Judo bronze medalist overwhelmed her opponents during her career, and if fights went to the canvas, Rousey usually ended up on the winning side of exchanges.
Ronda Rousey teams with former rival as comeback talks resurface
One of Rousey’s wildest wins took place at UFC 184, in which Rousey set a UFC submission record (14 seconds) in the card’s main event. 10 years after the quick armbar finish, Rousey teamed up with the woman who was on the receiving end of her record-setting submission.
In a recent Instagram post, Rousey shared a clip of her and former title challenger Cat Zingano working out together in California.
“Only [Cynthia] could shoot my struggling through postpartum a– and make it look this good. Thank you [Cat] for stopping by and helping me relearn how to move – I forgot how fun it could be!” Rousey posted.
Zingano hasn’t fought in MMA since a loss to Cris Cyborg at Bellator 300 for the women’s featherweight championship. The former UFC standout parted ways with the promotion after a TKO loss to Megan Anderson at UFC 232.
Ronda Rousey shut down MMA comeback due to brain trauma
As for Rousey, she recently excited fans by returning to the gym and igniting speculation of an MMA comeback. But due to neurological damage, Rousey isn’t planning on an MMA comeback anytime soon.
Rousey revealed an extensive concussion history during her MMA and Judo careers that brought her combat sports tenure to an abrupt conclusion. She walked away following a first-round loss to Nunes at UFC 207.
After ending her MMA career, Rousey transitioned to professional wrestling with WWE but ended her tenure after a tumultuous relationship with the promotional brass. It’s uncertain if she’ll ever return to wrestling after her WWE fallout.
