Red-Hot Ulberg Launched Up Rankings Ladder
Today at 01:13 PM
Former UFC bantamweight champion, Petr Yan, reestablished himself as a major threat to the 135-pound throne by turning away ex-flyweight titleholder, Deiveson Figueiredo, atop the UFC Macau MMA event last weekend overseas. But "No Mercy" was already ranked two spots above the Brazilian at No. 3 and will gain no traction in the latest (and official) UFC rankings update.
Not the case for Carlos Ulberg.
The hard-hitting kiwi captured his seventh straight victory by defeating former 205-pound title challenger Volkan Oezdemir in the UFC Macau co-main event. His performance was good enough to send "Black Jag" three spots up the light heavyweight ladder to No. 7, while Oezdemir drops one spot to No. 8 in defeat. Don't be surprised to see Ulberg draw a Top 5 contender his next time out.
Here's how the rankings are compiled, at least until AI takes over:
Rankings are generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
Take a look at what the latest rankings field looks like courtesy of UFC.com. Note: (+/- = movement in rankings, T = tie, *NR = Not previously ranked).
