Jan Blachowicz wouldn’t mind making history with a second UFC title reign.
Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jan Blachowicz, known for his explosive knockout power, isn’t getting any younger, the 42-year-old returning from a near two-year layoff at UFC London this weekend.
Blachowicz is set to face #6 contender and Israel Adesanya teammate Carlos Ulberg in the co-main event of the evening. Blachowicz’ last two fights were against Alex Pereira and current champion Magomed Ankalaev, who he fought to a split draw with in 2022.
With a win on Saturday, the Polish fighter hopes to reinsert himself into the title mix and possibly the record books, too.
Jan Blachowicz could break Randy Couture’s insane UFC record
Ahead of his 21st UFC fight, Blachowicz was asked how much longer he thinks he has in MMA:
“I don’t know. I hope so, a lot, but we will see,” Blachowicz said at UFC London media day.
“I know it’s almost [at its] end but still a couple more fights.”
After next opponent Carlos Ulberg, Blachowicz has entertained rematches with the aforementioned Ankalaev and Pereira and potentially retiring on top with the UFC belt wrapped around his waist again.
If Blachowicz keeps winning like he plans on doing, there’s a chance he could surpass Randy Couture as the oldest champion in UFC history. Two-time champ Couture was 45 years old at the time of his final title defense against Brock Lesnar in 2008 after winning the heavyweight title at 43.
Only Dan Henderson has come close to shattering Couture’s record, nearly taking the title off of Michael Bisping in 2016 at 46.
‘Why not?’ Jan Blachowicz on becoming UFC’s oldest champion
Turning 43 next February and 45 not so far away, Blachowicz says:
“Why not? We’ll see,” the former champion said of potentially breaking Couture’s record.
“That was different times then and now it’s different time.
“I’m different fighter but we’ll see. Maybe…” Blachowicz said.
In MMA, they often say power is the last thing to leave a fighter. Fighting into his forties, we’ll see if knockout artist Jan Blachowicz still has his patented ‘legendary Polish power’ at UFC London.
