Jake Paul spends $200,000 to troll Mike Tyson with 'ear coverings' in final pre-fight mind games

Jake Paul has put down a whopping $200,000 in an effort to continue his mind games ahead of his biggest fight yet this weekend.
The controversial star is facing Mike Tyson on Friday night, and continued to troll his rival at their final press conference on Wednesday night in Texas. ‘Iron Mike’ looked like he would rather be anywhere else on earth as he mumbled through a lengthy Q&A with the world’s media.
And at one stage, Paul showed off his latest effort at mocking his opponent, invoking the memory of one of his greatest shames. He unveiled a set of diamond ear protectors, calling back to Tyson’s 1997 rematch with Evander Holyfield, when he bit a chunk of his rival’s ear clean off during the fight.

In his latest effort to mock Tyson, Jake Paul purchased a pair of ‘ear coverings’, encrusted with diamonds and pointed. The ostensible reason for wearing such gear is to stop your ears from being bitten by the New York native, who has history in that department.
Paul also wore a $7million watch Jacob and Co. ‘billionaire’ watch on stage. The massive expenses will make a serious dent in even his reported $40million purse for the fight, which he gambled with co-headliner Katie Taylor during a different press conference segment.
“I’m not getting my s*** bit off on Friday night,” Paul told Tyson during an otherwise relatively uneventful press conference, before showing off his expensive jewellery from VOBARA. “So I got my diamond-spiked ear covers right there.”

The stunt Paul pulled was supposed to invoke memories of the infamous night in 1997 when Tyson faced Evander Holyfield for the second time. He had been stopped the first time they met seven months prior, and their rematch was not going his way when they got to the third round.
The first bout saw Holyfield dominate for eleven rounds, and the second was going similarly. Tyson was complaining of headbutts from his rival, and retaliated by biting his ear in the second and earning a two-point deduction.
However, that punishment wasn’t enough to deter him from doing it again in the third. He went a step further and actually took a chunk out of Holyfield’s ear, which led to the fight being called off and chaos taking over the arena.
They eventually ended up patching things up and Tyson has even sold weed gummies making fun of the situation. Now, the pair are close friends and regularly discuss the incident in documentaries and appearances.
