"Chaos" got honest (for once).

Former Ulitmate Fighting Championship (UFC) Interm Welterweight champion Colby Covington returns to action this weekend (Sat., Dec. 14, 2024) for the first time since his absolute stinker of a performance against then-UFC Welterweight champion Leon Edwards. He takes on Joaquin Buckley in the main event of UFC Tampa, which goes down inside Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL.

By the time Covington walks into the Octagon this weekend, it will be almost a year to the day since losing a third time for the undisputed Welterweight title.

In the ESPN+ produced show UFC Journey: "Colby Covington vs. Joaquin Buckley" Part 1, "Chaos" opened up about the loss.

"After I lost three shots at the undisputed title, it felt like the lowest of low," Covington said. "I lost and forgot who I was. It was a good reminder that woke me up again. I just had to cancel out the bad energy and couldn't let the hype and ego get to my head. I had to train harder to become the No. 1 contender again because all I ever wanted was to be the undisputed champion- that's all I cared about."

While Covington will pick back up his gimmick starting tomorrow for UFC Tampa media Day, it was very refreshing to hear Covington be honest and not play a character when talking about his current place in the sport.

"It's been a year since my last fight and I've used that time to really grow myself as a martial artist and as a person. Mentally speaking, I'm in a better place than I've ever been."
