Former UFC prospect and teammate of Charles Oliveira, Mateus Mendoca, suffered one of the most unique and bizarre injuries in the history of MMA.

After earning a UFC contract following a win on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022, Mateus Mendoca was thrust straight into the deep end when he was matched up with Javid Basharat.

The Brazilian went on to fight three times under the UFC banner unfortunately losing all three of his outings and was subsequently cut from the promotion.

Mateus Mendoca suffers a fractured penis in training

After being cut from the UFC following his string of losses, the 25-year-old returned to the regional scene in Brazil where he picked up a first-round submission win this past October.

However, since his bounce-back win, Mendonca has suffered an extremely unfortunate and one-of-a-kind injury that stands out as one of the most bizarre in the sport’s history.

A few days ago, the 25-year-old revealed that he suffered a fractured penis while rolling in jiu-jitsu, which required emergency surgery.

Mendonca trains at Chute Box gym with UFC star Charles Oliveira and others. He admitted that he was rolling without a protective cup, something he will never do again.

“I was training with (a teammate). And he landed his knee on my penis. And I felt an absurd pain and went to the bathroom. I was in Sao Paulo the other day and my thing looked weird, it looked different, it has a lump,” he explained to AgFight.

“My girl told me to go to the hospital and they did an ultrasound exam and told me to go to a different hospital right away for an emergency surgery,” he continued.

Other notably bad injuries in MMA

Throughout the three-decade-long history of the UFC, there have been some other terrible more common injuries suffered by fighters.

Anderson Silva‘s horrendous leg break against Chris Wiedman in 2013 was one of the most devastating injuries ever suffered inside the cage, similarly was Conor McGregor‘s ankle break against Dustin Poirier in 2021.

One of the other more bizarre-looking injuries was when Joanna Jedrzejczyk fought Zhang Weili in 2020 in what was a fight for the ages. After five incredibly close rounds, the former strawweight queen looked unrecognizable, donning what looked like a second head.
