Former UFC double champion questions Conor McGregor's decision to fight Logan Paul instead of returning to the UFC

With Conor McGregor’s potential fight against Logan Paul picking up serious steam, it has been questioned by former UFC double champion, Daniel Cormier.

Earlier this week, Conor McGregor announced that he is in talks to take on WWE superstar, Logan Paul, in the boxing ring, instead of returning to the UFC next.

Bloody Elbow sources understand that Paul has been approached about the potential boxing fight against the Irishman and he is currently in talks.

Daniel Cormier questions Conor McGregor’s decision to fight Logan Paul

It has now been over three years since Conor McGregor last stepped into the Octagon when he broke his ankle in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier.

Since then, the 36-year-old has claimed he is returning several times but this past June we came the closest to seeing the former double champion back in the Octagon when he was just two weeks out from his highly-anticipated fight against Michael Chandler.

After withdrawing from the fight due to a broken toe, fans once again lost hope that we’ll ever see McGregor back under the UFC banner.

Despite that, with McGregor now in talks to take on Logan Paul in the boxing ring, fellow former double champion turned UFC commentator, Daniel Cormier, has questioned the legitimacy of the Irishman’s announcement.

“We talk about impact. That right there tells you the impact of Conor McGregor,” Cormier told MMAJunkie.

“Conor McGregor has told us a lot of things over the last three years. None of them have come to fruition. I’m gonna have to see it to believe it,” he continued.

Following UFC Tampa this past Saturday, UFC CEO, Dana White, revealed that he is working on a ‘crazy fight’ that ‘no one would see coming’, which has later been confirmed to be the McGregor vs Paul fight.

“I think he’s gonna fight in the Octagon. I think he has to, though. For Conor McGregor to – he’s got to rinse some of the stench off of him from everything that’s happened outside of the Octagon. Where he made his home is inside that cage, and I think at some point he’s gonna have to get back there,” he continued.

Logan Paul drops huge McGregor fight hint during WWE promo

‘The Maverick’ has put down the boxing gloves in exchange for the tight lycra recently, as he has become a big star in the WWE, which is now owned by TKO, the same company that owns the UFC.

Despite that, just last week, Paul announced on his podcast that he was retired from the WWE after recently becoming a father.

However, with Monday Night Raw scheduled to move to Netflix in 2025, Paul took part in a Kickoff event this past Wednesday, announcing that he is no longer retired and will join the Raw roster in January.

During his promo, Paul dropped a famous McGregor reference, further leaning into his talks for a huge fight against the former UFC champion.

“I am a bully, and the WWE is my playground. So, look, I’m not here to take part, I’m here to take over, your approval means nothing to me, whether you love me or hate me, I don’t care,” Paul said.

McGregor dropped the famous line back in 2014 after knocking out Diego Brandao in the first round of their main event in Dublin, Ireland.
