Darren Till was dominant on his return to combat on Saturday night as he put down Anthony Taylor.
The former UFC welterweight title contender was due to face Tommy Fury at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester on the night. However, the Love Island star pulled out of the fight due to concerns that he would be kicked after a cheeky press conference statement.
Instead, Misfits Boxing light-heavyweight champion Taylor answered the call for a short-notice main event, which was his biggest career opportunity to date.

Darren Till vs Anthony Taylor result
It became clear early on that Scouser Darren Till was the home fighter just down the road in Manchester. He was a big favorite with bookies heading into the bout, and was welcomed with a rapturous applause from the British crowd.
Anthony Taylor was a less popular proposition for the fans, receiving loud boos as he made his explosive entrance for his first main event. The American landed a right early, but looked so much smaller than Till, who was clearly the more comfortable fighter.
Till was able to cut off the ring well and land big in the first, with Taylor just about avoiding clean shots. It appeared that the first went in favor of the home fighter, who showed his boxing prowess as well as the major advantage in size.
Taylor’s heught disadvantage came off in comical style in the first as he threw an overhand that somehow managed to land below Till’s belt line. The rest of the round saw success for the Brit, who seemed in clear control heading into the second.
The third saw Taylor down from a shot that was ruled a slip, and Till looked to have another knockdown not ruled by the referee. Taylor needed a lot more in the fourth, but ended up being put down with a huge uppercut.
Somehow, Taylor managed to land clean in the fifth and hurt Till with a big right hand that bloodied his rival. But in the early seconds of the sixth round he was put down again and brutally stopped by ‘The Gorilla’.
Darren Till and Anthony Taylor are both MMA veterans
Both Darren Till and Anthony Taylor have plenty of fighting experience in the MMA cage, albeit at very different levels. The Brit made it all the way to a world title showdown with Tyron Woodley in 2018 after beating legends like Donald Cerrone and Stephen Thompson on his way to title contention.
Meanwhile, Taylor was a lower level competitor in his MMA days, going 7-5 during runs with Bellator and other promotions. He was riding a five-fight win streak that included UFC veterans Dean Barry and Chris Avila before the coronavirus pandemic ended his career.
He has since moved into the Misfits Boxing world, via a stint in the camp of Jake Paul. He has boxed considerably more than Till, but was a massive underdog heading into Saturday night’s fight.
