Conor McGregor trashes Usman Nurmagomedov, claims Paul Hughes dominated for 'easy win'

It's safe to say Conor McGregor might not exactly have an unbiased opinion when it comes to the Nurmagomedov family.

Following a five-round classic on Saturday that saw Usman Nurmagomedov defeat Paul Hughesby majority decision in the main event at PFL Dubai, McGregor weighed in with his thoughts on the fight. While it was inarguably a close affair between two top lightweights, McGregor felt like Hughes definitely deserved the win and didn't think much about Nurmagomedov or the family of fighters that he represents.

"Tremendous fight and performance," McGregor said about Hughes on Twitter. "Easy win for Hughes. He dominated that fight. And [Usman] exactly what it says on the tin — a Nurmagomedov. Runner, sprinter, bolter, scarper, scurrying 'fighter.'

"The Nurmagomedovs are not fighters. They are the most non-fighting fighters out of Dagestan and all time. Run away around the cage and shoot ass bitches. Dagestan is better than the Nurmagomedovs and that is a fact."

McGregor has a long, sordid history with the Nurmagomedov family dating back to his heated rivalry with Khabib Nurmagomedov in the UFC. The bad blood between those two boiled over at UFC 229 in 2018 with Nurmagomedov largely mauling McGregor in the lightweight title fight before tapping him out with a nasty rear-naked choke/face crank combination in the fourth round.

Just moments after the fight ended, Nurmagomedov leaped over the cage to go after one of McGregor's coaches and teammates while members of his team ended up throwing punches with McGregor until security could intervene.

While McGregor rarely misses a chance to take a shot at anyone from the Nurmagomedov lineage, Khabib has long since moved on after retiring with an undefeated record in 2020 as UFC lightweight champion.

Since that time, Nurmagomedov has become one of the top coaches in the sport while helping his cousin Usman and his longtime friend Islam Makhachev both hold titles in the PFL and UFC respectively.

As for McGregor, he's been out of action for nearly four years after suffering a gruesome broken leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier back in 2021. While McGregor is expected to return sometime in 2025, it's highly unlikely he faces anyone with the last name Nurmagomedov or a member of that team in his first fight back.

That hasn't doesn't stop McGregor from taking aim at them any chance he gets and Usman is the latest with a target on his back.
