Conor McGregor names himself and Ronda Rousey but Jon Jones misses out on his MMA Mount Rushmore

Conor McGregor has named himself among the four best and most influential MMA fighters of all time.

McGregor is the latest high-profile UFC star to take part in the Mount Rushmore trend, which sees MMA figures picking their top four fighters.

Some people choose to base their picks on the overall impact of the fighters, while others tend to focus on fighting ability over anything else.

Fans are always interested to hear what the big UFC stars have on their list.

Conor McGregor shocks with his four picks for MMA Mount Rushmore

The man who is widely regarded as the greatest fighter of all time, Jon Jones, didn't make McGregor’s list, and neither did two-weight champion Georges St-Pierre.

Demetrious Johnson and Anderson Silva missed out too, so it's clear that the Irishman was focusing on the athlete's overall impact rather than their skills.

McGregor said when asked to name his MMA Mount Rushmore during an interview with The Schmo: "How many is there on Mount Rushmore, four?

He added: "Royce Gracie, Chuck Liddell, myself and Ronda Rousey."

Royce Gracie used the gentle art of BJJ to show the world that smaller men can beat bigger men in a fight when he was crowned the champion of UFC 1, UFC 2, and UFC 4.

Chuck Liddell helped MMA's premier promotion find mainstream success in the mid-2000s and Ronda Rousey took things to the next level a few years later.

And of course, McGregor is the biggest star in the sport's short history. Even after over three years out injured fans are still desperate to see him return to the Octagon.

All four of them will go down in history, but most MMA fans would argue that none of them are among the very best fighters who have ever stepped foot in the Octagon.

Conor McGregor is on the hunt for a new comeback opponent

McGregor famously broke his leg during a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021 – but now he's fully fit and desperate to return to the cage.

A fight with Michael Chandler was supposed to go down at UFC 303 in June.

Unfortunately, McGregor broke his toe in training and withdrew from the contest before Chandler agreed to take an interim fight with Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 on November 16.

'Notorious' still hopes to face Chandler in 2025, but he's concerned that their schedules won't match up.

McGregor says he’s now started looking for a new UFC comeback opponent.

"We are looking for the date," McGregor told The Schmo.

"I'd like to square it away with Michael Chandler. You know, I'd like to get Chandler in, we've had our beef, and it's not settled.

"He has a match scheduled. I would like to fight before he's recovered.

"There's a few names in the line at the minute. There's a few names being discussed."
