Tuesday racing tips
- CARLISLE
1.03: Orkney Blue 13/2 each-way (0.5pt)
2.05: Flic Ou Voyou 9/4 (0.5pt) - FAKENHAM
12.55: For Pleasure 4/1 (1pt)
Orkney Blue
The favourite doesn’t appeal at that price and he’s also entered and declared for a hurdle race over 2m instead of this 2m4f trip for Wednesday.
Orkney Blue was an eyecatcher at Hexham in April on his debut in a bumper, when just held second by a neck having ran green initially before coming back to challenge.
He looked outpaced with a few hundred yards to go yet somehow found that bit extra to nearly get the win.
Attractive price on hurdle debut at least and there’s little form to rely on here given how all rivals make their jumps debut, so it’s market indicative, but Orkney Blue is an attractive each-way for now.
Flic Ou Voyou
There’s much more form to be seen for the 2.05 as it’s a Veterans’ Handicap Chase.
Recent form is key in these types of races and that’s why the first four in the market are priced accordingly.
Marown is just about favourite at the time of writing at around 2/1 – has only placed in the top three in his last eight races including all six last season.
The Milan gelding has only ever won twice over fences though and does seem to prefer 3m.
Flic Ou Voyou has been finding form late on with a couple of seconds this year and winning last time out ahead of Boomslang over this distance.
He beat the youngsters quite nicely to grab what was his first win in ten races and well over a year and a half.
He’s also the only horse of the front few to not be making his seasonal debut which has got to be a plus in this kind of veterans chase.
For Pleasure
It’s a bit of an odd race this given that Magistrato has been flying over fences recently with a few top placed efforts behind the likes of Imperial Saint at Aintree, Beat Box at Newton Abbot and winning ahead of Kauto The King in July.
But he goes back to hurdles where’s he’s only won once and hasn’t been seen in this discipline since September 2023.
Similarly, For Pleasure who has made eight starts over fences (last in 2022) continues over hurdles, he’s had six winners over those obstacles, albeit from 25 runs.
He won by a mile here in December last year ran quite well at Plumpton last month at 15/2 on his first outing since having a wind op and should be back to winning off a reduced mark.
He has to give away plenty of weight to Sanitiser who is the big favourite.
That five-year-old won his first hurdle contest from 11 attempts just eight days prior to this race, and goes off the same weight.
But For Pleasure could well be bouncing back, under Sean Bowen for Olly Murphy.
