Rory McIlroy took home the Race to Dubai title for a sixth time after victory in the DP World Tour Championship, matching Seve Ballesteros’ tally and moving within two behind record-holder Colin Montgomerie.
He secured a two-shot victory in the tournament while wearing his trademark Nike golf jersey, a look that has served him well for his four titles this year.
Since signing a 10-year, $200 million deal with the brand, he has been spotted almost exclusively in Nike polo shirts including a couple of special collaborations with the company.
At the first day of the DP World Tour Championship, he wore a short sleeve green polo from the range. The Nike Tour polo costs £80 but golfers can get a Dri-Fit Victory version for £40. There are bigger discounts on the Nike website and on the American Golf Black Friday sale.
McIlroy was completely decked out in Nike for the tournament, also donning a pair of Nike Air Zoom Victory Tour 3 shoes. The shoes are priced at £210 and are waterproof and spiked – something he probably does not need to worry about in the Dubai summer.
McIlroy is often spotted wearing special edition versions of the shoes and he is not the only top golfer to wear them. Brooks Koepka, Tommy Fleetwood, Tiger Woods and Scottie Scheffler all go for the range-topping Nike shoes.
The world number three's use of Nike clothing is part of a lucrative contract with the sportswear brand. McIlroy earned around $10 million to $20 million last year from Nike as part of a massive 10-year deal he signed in 2017 to wear their apparel.
"Nike is the leading sports brand in the world and naturally a partner I want to align with. Being one of their stable of athletes is a dream come true and gives me an edge in one of the most competitive fields of sport on the planet," McIlroy said of working with the American sportswear giants.
The deal does not extend to his clubs and golf bag though.
He signed a separate 10-year $100m deal with Taylormade to use the brand's clubs and equipment bags and currently uses a TaylorMade Qi10 driver.
