First look: the lowdown on the new Callaway Elyte driver
Yesterday at 10:00 AM
Callaway have been setting the bar high for driving the ball.
For years they have been rightly proud of their driver technology and it would have been easy for the company to sit back and take the plaudits.
Instead they plunged over $2 million into new research and development.
The result is the new Elyte range and it is not a letdown.
As they announce themselves: "The Future of performance is Elyte."
The industry has been agog at the new drivers and we're going to take you through the four different models.
Let's start with the new Elyte itself – what's it all about?
It's the model at the heart of the range and it offers the most adaptability with one weight and three weight slots – for draw, fade and neutral.
I've heard it has amazing speed?
There is Elyte speed from enhanced shaping – that means enhanced aerodynamics to provide speed throughout the entire golf swing and the improved shape is designed to maximize that speed by offering improved forgiveness and launch conditions.
What about the materials?
This is top end stuff – the future of composites, in fact.
The Elyte driver has an all-new Thermoforged Carbon crown. It is aerospace grade carbon fiber that enables fast head speeds while optimizing launch and spin.
Has AI been involved?
Oh yes. Callaway say that artificial intelligence is having an impact on everything they do these days.
There are Ai Advancements for Optimal Distance, Control, and Launch. It is Callaway's most advanced Ai face to date.
The new Ai10x Face delivers 10x more control points than the Ai Smart Face .
It is designed to produce exceptionally fast ball speeds, tight dispersion, and optimized launch across the face.
And how can it be adjusted?
There is modern shape with this adjustability.
The new Elyte adjustable perimeter weighting system utilizes a 13g moveable weight to enable a neutral, draw, or fade setting.
The Elyte model features a matte carbon crown, modern shape, and a chevron on the topline to inspire confidence off the tee and easy alignment.
And finally, what about the details?
The shafts are:
True Temper Project X Denali Charcoal
50g (5.5-R, 6.0-S)
60g (6.0-S, 6.5-X)
And Mitsubishi Chemical Vanquish PL
40g (R2)
The grips are Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 (50g).
