Surrey's captain Rory Burns has been awarded a Testimonial Year by the Club.

Burns joined the Surrey set up back in 1999 as an U9 and played all the way through the age group pathway.

Burns has captained the Three Feathers since 2018, winning four County Championship titles in seven years, bringing a period of sustained success to south London.

The opener has played 32 times for England since making his debut in 2018, scoring three centuries. For Surrey he has scored more than 11,000 First-Class runs.

Having broken into the Surrey side in 2012, Burns consistently delivered runs at the top of the order for the Club, passing 1,000 first-class runs in a summer for six consecutive years from 2014-2019.

After being appointed captain in 2018, Burns took the responsibility in his stride. The left-hander scored 1,359 runs at an average of just under 65 as the County Championship trophy returned to the Kia Oval for the first time in 15 years.

Burns led Surrey to a hat-trick of titles from 2022-2024, scoring more than 1,000 runs in 2024 as he became the second most successful captain in the Club's 180-year history outright. Only Stuart Surridge, with five, has won more County Championship titles for Surrey.

Rory Burns said "Having been part of the Club for 25 years, I'm honoured to have been awarded a testimonial by Surrey. The Oval has always been home for me and I'm very grateful for all the support that I have received whilst I've been here.

"The Surrey family is a very special community to be a part of and I'm looking to celebrating with friends, teammates and supporters this year."

Alec Stewart, High Performance Cricket Advisor at Surrey CCC, said: “No-one is more deserving of this honour than Rory Burns. Rory is a leader of the highest calibre and very few men have had the impact on the Club that he has.

"Everyone knows what he can do on the pitch with a bat in hand but that quality as a batter is matched by his tactical skillset in the field as captain and by his leadership in the dressing room. On behalf of the Club I want to thank Rory for his 25 years of service and I look forward to seeing him scoring runs at the Kia Oval for many more years."

David Plowman is chairing a committee to oversee the testimonial year and would welcome applications from Members.  In addition, he would also be keen to hear from Members who could spare some time to help out for what should be a really fun series of events. Anyone with a background in corporate events, administration, catering and fundraising would be very welcome to support.
