Johnny Fisher scores blistering 36 second knockout win over Alen Babic

Johnny Fisher came through the biggest test of his career so far with flying colours.

‘The Romford Bull’ blasted Babic out in 36 seconds to move to 12-0 in his promising young career.

The writing was on the metaphorical wall when the Croatian’s knees buckled from the first clean right hand Fisher landed.

Undeterred by the Brit’s power, Babic marched forward looking to land a thudding shot of his own.

However, as he advanced, Fisher let a vicious seven-punch combination fly, which sent Babic tumbling to the canvas.

He bravely made his way back to his feet but stumbled backwards as he attempted to regain his footing, prompting the referee to wave off the fight.

It marked the second first-round knockout loss in three fights for Babic, who was dispatched in two minutes by Poland’s Lukasz Rozanski when he challenged for the WBC bridgerweight title in April last year.

Speaking in the immediate aftermath of his victory, Fisher said: “This is one of the most special moments of my life and my career so far.

“I want to thank every single one of you, I was expecting a ten-round war tonight, I prepared my mind for a horrible gruelling thing.

“I prepared like I had never prepared before, I ate better, I slept better, and that is the result you get and I think that shows the level I can get to…

“I’ve got total respect for Alen Babic, he’s a friend but his team were saying they were going to drag me deep.

“They said Mark [Tibbs] (Fisher’s trainer) would have to pull me out. I tell you what, I’m from Romford and I won’t be pulled out by anyone.

“You have to drag me off the canvas and put me in an ambulance if you want to get through me. I have the heart of a warrior.”

Fisher has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young heavyweights in Britain.

The former rugby player only had a brief 10-bout amateur career but continues to impress with every fight in the paid ranks.

Last year, he scooped the coveted Boxing Writers' Club's Young Fighter of the Year award after winning his first senior title – the Southern Area heavyweight strap in August 2023.

Having beaten Babic with ease, he is now expected to move on to British title-level.

Fabio Wardley is currently in possession of the Lonsdale belt and is due to defend it against Frazer Clarke for a second time this year after their all-action inaugural encounter in March ended in a draw.
