Anthony Joshua is bidding to reestablish his status as the most lucrative prizefighter in the British heavyweight division.

AJ can become only the sixth-ever three-time heavyweight champion by beating Daniel Dubois but he’s set for a mega payday regardless.

The 34-year-old once commanded enormous sums per fight but successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk reduced his star power.

Joshua has since racked up a four-straight win streak to set up an IBF world title with Dubois, who inherited the belt after Usyk vacated it.

The two Brits will come head-to-head at Wembley on September 21, live on talkSPORT, and both will depart significantly richer.

Joshua vs Dubois: Purse and prize money

The official figures for the purse and prize money have yet to be confirmed but it will be eight-figure paydays for both.

Sporty Salaries, as cited by the Manchester Evening News, claims Joshua will earn a guaranteed purse of £6 million for the fight.

However, this will potentially surpass £25m depending on pay-per-view sales – with AJ the A-side of the 60/40 split in PPV buys.

The report adds that Dubois is set to take home an estimated £3.5m guaranteed, which could rise up to £10m after fight night.

This would be the most lucrative fight in his career by a distance having earned $2,014,250 (£1,630,475) for his defeat to Usyk last year.

This purse fee doesn’t include any pay-per-view money or fees for winning or lasting the full distance etc.

So, it’s possible both Brits could take home even more, with more details and official earnings revealed after the event has been held.

Meanwhile, this is also set to be one of Joshua’s most lucrative fights, having pocketed $50million (£39.8m) against Francis Ngannou.

Joshua banked a stunning £3.3m for every strike he scored having knocked out the former UFC champion with just 12 punches.

The figures for his latest bout have not been made public yet, however, Joshua will earn significantly more than defending champion Dubois.

But it still falls short of the haul taken by compatriot Tyson Fury, who competed for the undisputed heavyweight world titles against Oleksandr Usyk in May with a 70/30 purse split in his favour.

It was reported that the ex-WBC champion at the time had earned around $150million (£116m) to throw hands with the Ukrainian.

Unfortunately Fury lost his belt and was defeated for the first time in his career, but still went home with his pockets lined.

He will also receive another lucrative opportunity in Saudi Arabia, with the Gypsy King set to net another huge payday for his December 21 sequel against Usyk.
