Matt Cardona has revealed where his “Woo Woo Woo” catchphrase came from.

After re-debuting on ECW as his Jersey Shore-inspired gimmick in 2009, Matt Cardona (as Zack Ryder) began shouting “Woo Woo Woo” while in the ring. This rip-off of Ric Flair quickly caught on with fans and helped make him one of the most popular wrestlers in the WWE at the time.

Despite his immense popularity, Matt Cardona was booked horribly by the WWE. He managed to get over with his YouTube show “Z! True Long Island Story”, something that Vince McMahon clearly didn’t like and punished him accordingly.

Matt Cardona recently appeared on Hey! EW with RJ City. The former NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion explained the origin of his “Woo Woo Woo!” catchphrase.

He explained that while it was a rip-off of Ric Flair, it was also something Matt Cardona used to say to women in the club. It was so annoying that he knew it could get over on TV and did exactly that.

“That was kind of the catchphrase of Ric Flair times three, I guess. But it was also what I used to say to girls in the club. Like, a hot girl would walk by, and I'd go, ‘Woo! Woo! Woo!’ It was so annoying. Then I thought, ‘I can use this on TV and get it over.’ And look what happened.”

Matt Cardona: I'm Super Proud Of Chelsea Green, I Think The Fans Will Turn Her Babyface

Matt Cardona is proud of Chelsea Green's success in WWE.

Speaking with Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, Chelsea Green's husband Matt Cardona was asked to discuss the work she has been doing.

"Oh my god, when she made her return and she was in the Royal Rumble, I think she was in for like four or five seconds, and I saw the social media response. They were like, 'She's getting buried.' I was thinking, you idiots, you don't realize, everyone's talking about her. Chelsea gets it. She knows what it's all about. It's not about the moves, it's about the moments. Every second she's on television, she makes people remember her, and now she's letting people remember that she can actually wrestle. She can actually do some crazy stuff.

"She did, this wasn't even on television, she did it during the commercial break, which I think she's crazy for doing, she did the coast to coast dropkick. I'm like, how do you do that during the commercial? But she can go in the ring, she's very entertaining. I think she's the complete female competitor. So it makes sense that she's married to me, The Complete Matt Cardona. I'm super proud of all of her success. I'm super proud of her."
