Chris Jericho Shares His Thoughts On Potential Retirement Match

Chris Jericho says he’ll know when the time is right for him to retire.
Jericho, 54, has been a top star in WWE and AEW, and he has been wrestling for over 30 years. He currently holds the ROH World Championship, and he remains featured on AEW programming.
Speaking with Josh Martinez on Z100 New York, Chris Jericho was asked whether he had thought about how he wanted to end his career.
"I really haven't, man,” he said. “Because it could end tomorrow. Sting quit at 65. Times have changed now in wrestling because there's so much money involved from a television standpoint, and it's still a very star-powered business. So you could stay in this job a lot longer than you ever thought you would, as long as you're healthy and still can perform. I haven't really thought about that. I've never been the guy who's like, 'Year-long retirement ceremony.' That seems, 'Eh.'
“But there might be some merit to doing a final show. But I don't think about that stuff. I really live in what's going on right now. I'm sure when the time is right, I'll know it, and we'll figure out a way to do it and then go from there. But when I retire, it'll be I'm retiring. I don't want to do the one where you come back.”

Martinez then noted that there's a lot of money and buzz in retirement matches. Jericho emphasized that he wasn’t in wrestling for the money.
“It is, but I've never done anything for money. Honestly never have,” Chris Jericho said. “If you do stuff that you love, the money always follows. If you something for money, usually it never works out the way that you want it to. So to me, I'll know when it's time, and then we'll just go from there. But for right now, I'm still enjoying this at the highest of levels that you can enjoy something. If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't do it. There's no way I would do it at this point in time.”
