Pens Points will get you all up-to-date as the Penguins had another late night on the West Coast.

We've almost made it to the end of late night hockey as the Pittsburgh Penguins faced-off with the San Jose Sharks in the penultimate game of their season long seven-game road trip. There's just one contest remaining against the Utah Hockey Club on Wednesday night before the Penguins are back home in the friendly confines of PPG Paints Arena.

If you chose sleep over staying up late to watch you are forgiven, just make sure you catch up on what you missed here at Pensburgh with our game recap.

Pens Points...

Entering the new year, the Penguins had positioned themselves to be in the playoff fight after a rough start. That door has now seemingly closed for the Penguins who sit at 3-6-3 so far in 2025 and face a big climb if they want to be playing for the Cup. [Pensburgh]

After an awkward collision on Saturday in Seattle, Evgeni Malkin has been placed on injured reserve and Jesse Puljujarvi called up in his place. Malkin's injury is listed as lower-body, but video from the incident points toward the knee area. [Sportsnet]

According to reports, Fenway Sports Group plans to take the Penguins to market and explore selling a minority share of the team as early as this week. [ESPN]

Alex Pietrangelo is out of the 4 Nations Faceoff next month and will need to be replaced on the Team Canada roster. There is a long list of potential replacements for the defender, including the Penguins own Kris Letang. [NHL]

When he was hired as head coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last summer, Kirk MacDonald was already seen as a future NHL bench boss. Early returns from his first season in the AHL will only continue to boost his resume. [Trib Live]

Over the weekend, Sidney Crosby trade "rumors" started to bubble up once again after the blockbuster between the Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes. No matter how many time these rumors swirl, the answer is always the same. [The Athletic $$]

NHL News and Notes...

Remarkably, the Columbus Blue Jackets are in a position to be buyers at the trade deadline and rumors are already swirling about them possibly targeting Seattle Kraken forward Brandon Tanev to bolster their forward depth. [The Hockey News]

Trash talk for the 4 Nations Faceoff is starting to heat up just a few weeks out from puck drop. While Canada/United States has its own rivalry, the hatred also runs deep between Scandinavian neighbors Sweden and Finland. [NHL]

Quebec City is hungry for a new hockey team and the Ottawa Senators are hungry for a new home arena. Those two ingredients put together seem like a recipe for relocation, but Senators owner Michael Andlauer doesn't see it happening... [Sportsnet]

But the Senators did dress their mascot up in a Nordiques logo, only to quickly apologize. [TSN]
