Pens Points is here to help get your ready for a showdown with the champs.

Riding high from their first three game winning streak of the 2024-25 season, the Pittsburgh Penguins will look to make it four straight later tonight when the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers come to town. Extending the winning streak will be a tall task against an Atlantic division leading Panthers side who are showing little, if any, signs of a Stanley Cup hangover.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Sportsnet Pittsburgh.

Pens Points...

Last week was by far the Penguins best week of the season despite what looked like a daunting schedule. That resolve will be tested again this week with three more matchups against teams currently sitting in a playoff position. [Pensburgh]

Down on the farm, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins keep rolling right along with many top prospects making their impact felt. In the junior ranks, Harrison Brunicke and Tanner Howe are early selections for Team Canada at the WJC. [Pensburgh]

After a season to forget, Rickard Rakell has returned to the top of his game for the Penguins this season. Currently leading the team with 10 goals, Rakell is healthy and playing with a new found purpose so far this season. [Trib Live]

It's a small sample size, but Phil Tomasino has provided a needed spark to this Penguins roster. With two goals in his first three games with the team, Tomasino has displayed one of his best traits, his willingness to shoot the puck. [Trib Live]

More and more trade rumors are starting to pick up around the Penguins, a patern that has been consistent for a few weeks now following comments from general manager Kyle Dubas that signaled his willingness to make moves. [Sports Illustrated]

NHL News and Notes...

Tuesday night will be full of emotion in Calgary as the franchise plans to honor the late Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau pregame. On Monday, the team invited their father to participate in practice ahead of the ceremony. [Sportsnet]

While there doesn't appear to be any change to the initial four-to-six week timeline for Alex Ovechkin to return from a broken fibula, the Washington Capitals captain was back on the ice Monday taking a few slow laps before practice. [Sportsnet]
