Wednesday rolls in with some major news from out west.

If you went to bed early on Tuesday, you missed out on some late night news breaking from the West Coast. Blake Snell is the first big name off of the free agent board, and he went to ... the Dodgers. There's no denying that LA is the idealized version of the "fully operational Death Star" that Brian Cashman once alluded to his own team as, with the defending champs securing a big name pitcher away from a division rival with plans on the horizon for more potential moves. The Yankees have their work cut out for themselves if they want to close that gap, Juan Soto sweepstakes aside.

We've got a quiet day on the site as the holidays approach, but John's around for a double-feature first profiling Anthony Santander's case as a solid Plan B outfielder should the Yankees lose out on said Soto sweepstakes. Then he returns to talk about the man himself and how Soto has left such an imprint on two different franchises already despite only being 26 years old. Later in the day, Jeff pops in to deliver DJ LeMahieu his report card for the year (spoiler alert, it's not a passing grade).

Questions/Prompts:

1. Would you have been interesting in the Yankees inking Blake Snell to the five year, $182 million deal he got with the Dodgers?

2. Is deferred money in modern contracts becoming a necessity to building contenders?
