The last unchecked boxes; prospect pedigree brought into the system; the baseball year in quotes.

The Sporting News | Kristie Ackert: With Gleyber Torres and Caleb Durbin officially out of the picture for the 2025 Yankees, the club still needs a second baseman as well as probably one more bat in the lineup. Jazz has spent more than 1300 career innings at the keystone, though his athleticism and talent at third surprised Yankee brass in 2024, and keeping him there alongside Anthony Volpe might give the Yankees the best defensive left infield in the AL. At the same time, Alex Bregman's price just keeps dropping and dropping.

NJ.com | Randy Miller: The Yankees inked 25-year old Brennen Davis to an minor-league contract, bringing in outfield depth for Triple-A Scranton, and some prospect pedigree. Davis was the No. 3 prospect in the Cubs' system as late as 2023, but a run of injuries have taken some of the shine off. However, he had a 116 wRC+ with the Iowa Cubs this past season, including a below-average strikeout rate. There's no such thing as a bad MiLB deal, and there's clearly some upside left in Mr. Davis.

FanGraphs | David Laurila: It's that time of year where everyone releases their Top and Best Of lists — see me tomorrow for my Best Music of 2024 — and David has the best baseball quotes FanGraphs has seen over the last 12 months. MLB has always been a font for potent quotables, and the tradition continues for at least another year.
