The Yankees were out in force at the BBWAA awards dinner; Francisco Cervelli named Team Italy manager; catching up with Drew Thorpe and a Yankees rival

MLB.com | Paul Casella: In case you missed it, Saturday night was the Baseball Writers' Association of America annual awards dinner. Even with unanimous American League MVP Aaron Judge unable to attend, as his wife is expecting a child any day now, the Yankees were well-represented: Luis Gil received the American League Rookie of the Year Award, John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman received an award for Long and Meritorious Service, and Oswaldo Cabrera received the Community Service Award. On top of that, former Yankees Don Mattingly and Dave Winfield were also in attendance.

Sports Illustrated | Sam Connon: Former Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli may have hung up the cleats, but he's still sticking around the baseball diamond. The 38-year-old from Venezuela, who played for Team Italy in the 2009 and 2017 World Baseball Classics (his father is from Italy), has been named the new manager for the Italian national team, replacing former Mets catcher Mike Piazza.

MLB Trade Rumors | Nick Deeds: Remember Drew Thorpe? The former Yankees prospect was a key piece to two deals involving the San Diego Padres last season, one that propelled an AL pennant to the Bronx, the other that sent Dylan Cease to San Diego. That former pitching prospect underwent elbow surgery this past fall, and according to recent reports has suffered a setback. The saying "There's no such thing as a pitching prospect" exists for a reason.

MLB Trade Rumors | Mark Polishuk: The Houston Astros will be sending reliever Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs, the second deal between the two teams this winter. The move continues an offseason of payroll shedding from the Yankees' hated rivals.
