Boone extension talks forthcoming; Boone gives an idea of possible lineup construction; Yankees not completely writing off LeMahieu; the moves the Yankees should still consider ahead of the season

MLB Trade Rumors | Anthony Franco: Back in November, the Yankees confirmed the return of manager Aaron Boone following a 2024 campaign that saw him win his first pennant as skipper but also featured some poor play in the World Series. Although fans remain mixed at best on Boone, it doesn't seem like he'll be going anywhere after 2025, either, when his current contract expires. Owner Hal Steinbrenner told YES Network that he was planning on going through extension talks with Boone "in the days and weeks to come." Negotiations are no guarantee of an extension, but given how much Steinbrenner and general manager Brian Cashman have supported Boone over the past eight years, it's hard to see them letting him enter the new campaign as a lame duck — whether he deserves it or not.

New York Post | Mark W. Sanchez: In a radio appearance on WFAN, Boone gave some insight on how the Yankees' lineup may be constructed considering the current roster makeup. As of now, the plans seem to be playing Jasson Domínguez in left field and Cody Bellinger in center. While Domínguez made some notable misplays during his brief time in left late last season (where he didn't have much experience), the Yankees would rather him stick to one spot and get used to it, whereas Bellinger has a bit more versatility. He also mentioned Jazz Chisholm Jr. as the expected second baseman, with an open competition at third, as the rumor mills around the hot corner will continue to churn.

NJ.com | Max Goodman: Among the names that would currently be competing for the regular third base job is DJ LeMahieu, alongside Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza. While LeMahieu has notably struggled and not healthy in recent years, the Yankees aren't fully willing to write off that he might be able to provide something going forward. They have not yet ruled out further moves, though.

The Athletic | Brendan Kuty and Chris Kirschner: It's been quite the eventful offseason for the Yankees. From losing Juan Soto to making a host of moves in the aftermath of that, they've been busy. With spring training now on the near-horizon, there are still some moves to be made, so here is a look at some of the other things that could (or should) be on the Yankees' radar before the season.
