Torres leaves Friday game with injury; Judge and Soto won't participate in Home Run Derby; Brubaker's rehab moved to Triple-A; Ford to continue career in Japan

MLB: Gleyber Torres was removed from last night's game with the Red Sox after running out an infield single in the fourth inning. The reason reportedly was a groin issue, which Torres has been dealing with since a June 20th game against the Orioles. The veteran infielder has suffered through a tough season, with injury now being added to insult. Manager Aaron Boone said that they don't think the reaggravated groin injury is too significant.

Newsday | Erik Boland: The Home Run Derby is nine days away, and the league has just announced two contestants: Baltimore Orioles' Gunnar Henderson and Philadelphia Phillies' Alec Bohm. But the Yankees' top two sluggers won't be participating this year.

Juan Soto and Aaron Judge both declined to participate. The former said he has already taken part in two Derbys, and he has won it (in 2022). The same can be said about the captain, who took the crown in his 2017 rookie season, and won't return to the Derby unless it's back in New York.

MLB.com: Right-hander JT Brubaker, whom the Yankees acquired in late March, will now move to Triple-A Scranton to continue his rehab assignment.

Brubaker has allowed two runs in 10 innings during his rehab in the Complex League, Low-A, and Double-A. He is expected to contribute in the second half once he fully leaves behind his rehab from Tommy John surgery.

MLB Trade Rumors | Leo Morgenstern: Former Yankee Mike Ford will continue his playing career in Japan, as the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of the NPB announced his signing. The first baseman last played in MLB this year with the Cincinnati Reds, leaving a .150/.177/.233 line in 62 plate appearances.

The 32-year-old Ford was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Yankees in 2013 and was part of the organization until 2021, most notably contributing 12 homers with a 137 OPS+ in 50 games for the "Next Man Up" 2019 club.
