The Los Angeles Lakers recently shocked the NBA with their trade that brought Luka Doncic to LA. Doncic is now teamed up with LeBron James on the Lakers, and the team is hoping to make a deep run in the postseason. It’s going to take some time for both players to fully adjust to this new reality, but we have seen some flashes of greatness from the NBA’s hottest new duo already.

So far, the Lakers are 3-2 since Luka Doncic made his debut. It’s clear that the team is still figuring out how this duo of Doncic and LeBron James will be at its best, but we are starting to see the things that are working.

“I thought what LeBron said after the game really stood out, and that is that ‘I’m a great wide receiver. He’s a great quarterback’, and I think that’s what they’re starting to learn, is LeBron will run the routes, especially when they play faster,” ESPN’s Alan Hahn said. “When you’re small, you got to play faster, and so you let Luka get the ball. Look at this, just looking up the floor, and who’s running? The 40-year-old out running everybody else down the court.”

Everybody knows that Doncic is one of the best scorers in the NBA, but his passing ability is off the charts as well. We have already seen that on display since he joined the Lakers, and as time goes on and he gets comfortable, we will only see more of it.

“His vision. Luka doesn’t get a lot of credit for his passing ability, his vision,” Hahn continued. “He’s playing with bouncy bigs. Well, all we know about him is his scoring, right? The point is, is that LeBron is recognizing the skill set that he has with him and how to play with it. And you can argue that Luka might be the better fit with LeBron than anybody he’s ever played with, including Dwayne Wade. Wade didn’t have the perimeter game that Luka has, they were both clutch, they both certainly knew in the big moment, but the passing ability Luka brings could unlock a little more of LeBron even at this age.”

The Lakers are currently 34-21 on the year, which is good for fourth place in the Western Conference. Los Angeles was one of the better teams in the league even before Luka Doncic joined, and now it seems like the sky is the limit. When Doncic and LeBron James become fully adjusted to playing together, this Lakers team should be good enough to compete with anybody in a playoff series.
