The Toronto Raptors will be shorthanded once again for their second game of the season.

Both Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett have been listed as doubtful for Friday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, the team announced Thursday.

Quickley suffered a pelvic injury in the team’s opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. He was undercut by Cavaliers guard Darius Garland when contesting a rebound late in the second quarter of last night’s home opener.

He fell hard on his tailbone and left the game shortly after that with a right pelvic contusion.

Quickley had 13 points, four assists and two rebounds over 14 minutes of play before exiting the game, which Cleveland won 136-106. 

He averaged 18.6 points, 6.8 assists and 4.8 rebounds over 38 games for the Raptors last season after being traded from the New York Knicks on Dec. 30.

Rookie guard Jamal Shead is expected to get extended minutes in Quickley’s absence.

“It’s just something that I've tried to be prepared for and try to play to our expectations here,” said Shead, who wants to meet the standard set by Quickley and all-star forward Scottie Barnes. “I’ll just go out there and try to play as hard as possible. 

“I think that I’m ready for those minutes, and I’ll just try to go out there and prove that.”

Barrett, meanwhile, has been dealing with a sprained shoulder he suffered in the team’s first pre-season game on Oct. 6. He was listed as day-to-day and practised with the team on Thursday.

The Mississauga, Ont., native averaged 21.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 32 games with the Raptors last season after joining the team via trade from the New York Knicks.

Centre Kelly Olynyk (back) of Kamloops, B.C., small forward Bruce Brown (arthroscopic knee surgery), and rookie combo guard Ja’Kobe Walter (sprained shoulder) will be out too.
