Will the Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns end up making a trade? Kevin Durant was recently mentioned as a possible trade target for the Rockets. Now Devin Booker is even being linked to Houston, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

“Rockets possess a pick swap with Suns in 2025, Suns’ pick in 2027 and could end up with the Suns’ pick in 2029 based on contingencies. If the Suns are ever faced with breaking up team, Houston’s also in prime position to pursue a younger Devin Booker. For now, Phoenix is trying to win,” Wojnarowski wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Durant is 35 years old and has a history of seeking new opportunities in the NBA. Booker is only 27 years old and is the Suns star of the future. He has been mentioned in trade rumors, but the chances of Booker being moved appear to be slim.

Suns fans are not excited about Booker trade talks despite the minimal chance of any deal coming to fruition.

“Woj out here trying to drive a stake through the heart of Suns fans, I’m not even sharing that one lol But yeah, suffice it to say the Suns aren’t trading Devin Booker, because duh,” Gerald Bourguet of PHNX Sports wrote on X.

“Devin Booker is not being traded. Do not entertain that,” one fan wrote.

“Is this rant you went on literally just ‘a losing franchise would think it’s dope to land Kevin Durant or Devin Booker’? That’s just yapping,” another fan added.

“We went 3 whole years without having to fend off any moronic takes about Devin Booker wanting to leave the Suns. I hope you all enjoyed that time, because we are so back,” Bourguet wrote later.

Booker will turn 28 years old in October. He is in the prime of his career. Any trade involving Booker would result in a massive return for the Suns.

But Phoenix does not have any urgency to trade the star away. Additionally, reports are not suggesting that Booker even wants to leave right now.

Failing to win a championship often leads many to speculate about the future of the team. If the Suns won the NBA Finals this past season we likely wouldn’t even be having this conversation. The Suns fell short in the playoffs, though, and now rumors are beginning to surface.

As Wojnarowski mentioned, though, “Phoenix is trying to win” right now. Could Booker become a legitimate trade candidate down the road? Sure, especially if the Suns continue to fall short in the playoffs. At the moment, Phoenix is seemingly focused on building around Booker.

In 2023-24, Devin Booker averaged 27.1 points per game on 49.2 percent field goal and 36.4 percent three-point shooting. He also recorded 4.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists per outing.

Booker features an MVP-caliber ceiling. If he can stay healthy throughout the 2024-25 campaign, it would not be surprising to see him receive serious MVP consideration. The Suns’ offseason performance will be important to monitor, as adding more pieces around Booker could lead to an overall better campaign.

In reference to the Booker trade rumors, Suns fans probably do not have to worry this offseason. Nevertheless, talks will continue to emerge around Booker and Durant.
