Detroit Pistons second-year wing Ausar Thompson will be held out of contact drills at the start of training camp. Thompson is recovering from blood clots that cut short his rookie season. At this point, Thompson has only been cleared for non-contact drills, conditioning and strength training.

Thompson said he feels great, but didn't have a timeline on when he could be a full participant in practices. New Detroit president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon said the team is working with the NBA and NBPA on Thompson's medical process.

As a rookie, Thompson was a bright spot in a dismal Pistons season. The 6-foot-6 wing established himself as a very good defender, while averaging 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and nearly a block per game.
