Former bantamweight titleholder Sean O'Malley underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip following his UFC 306 championship loss to Merab Dvalishvili.  He had the procedure done in the first week of October and is already back in the gym.

O'Malley revealed that he's back to limited training on his YouTube channel.  Still weeks away from being able to grapple, O'Malley does what he can.

"Good news is 'Suga' Sean is back to training," O'Malley's coach Tim Welch said on the Timbo-Sugar Show.  "We got into some mitts, some light sparring."

"I can't wrestle yet.  I can move around.  I can hit mitts a little bit.  I can f**king shadow box, box, spar a little bit.  (I) can not grapple at all, yet.  (I'm) probably about three weeks out from being able to start drilling," O'Malley said.  "Hitting mitts, moving around is no an issue.  It's the grappling and sh*t that hurts."

Sean O'Malley unsure of return timeframe

The 30-year old former champion is hoping for a return to the octagon in the first quarter of 2025.  Eying April, it's till up in the air when O'Malley will be ready to compete again.

"I'm like three, four weeks out from being able to start drilling.  Once I start drilling, I feel like I can go to the UFC and have a timeline," O'Malley said.  "I'm still thinking April might make sense, so we'll see."
