Screw Red! 'I Decided To Wear Black Because It's Luana's Funeral'

Mind games didn't work.
Top 15 ranked Strawweight Gillian Robertson secured her third straight win at UFC Vegas 100 last night (Sat., Nov. 9, 2024) when she defeated Luana Pinheiro via unanimous decision from inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
There was a little bit of bad blood between the pair of Strawweights leading into the fight because Brazil's Pinheiro decided to wear Robertson's trademark red Venum fight kit instead of her normal yellow fight kit.
Robertson wasn't happy.
"I think [she stole the color] on purpose," Robertson told MMAMania.com. "So, she's worn red once before, but the UFC texted me and said, 'She's wearing red, so you have to choose between black or white.' I was like, 'I didn't know Brazil could wear red,' and she said, 'Oh, no, they can, she's representing another country, so she can wear the red shorts.' So, that's why I posted on Instagram that I decided to wear black because it's Luana's funeral."
If you're wondering about the fight kit color and choosing process, "Savage" also explained that.
"She's ranked above me, so she had the first choice, unfortunately," Robertson said. "They made a point to me too that one day I'm going to have to fight Weili Zhang for the red, so I gotta get used to it now."
Pinheiro wore red two fights ago because fellow higher-ranked Brazilian Amanda Ribas chose yellow.
Robertson didn't think about using reverse psychology on Pinheiro by wearing the Brazilian's trademark yellow shorts; rather, she almost chose white shorts so that they would be "covered in blood" to make them red.
Pinheiro has now lost three straight fights, and UFC Vegas 100 may really have been her funeral because she may be released next week.
