Former UFC star turned BKFC superstar 'Platinum' Mike Perry hosted his first-ever combat sports event over the weekend; a private boxing showcase that ended in a brutal knockout for MMA icon Yoel Romero.
The 'secret' boxing event was undoubtedly a rip-roaring success for Mike Perry, who was keen to tease that there's "more to come" from his new Dirty Boxing promotion.
Mike Perry reacts and recaps his first-ever 'Dirty Boxing Championship' event
Speaking with The Schmo after its conclusion, Mike Perry would first celebrate the incredible effort shown by the athletes who competed at Dirty Boxing Championship's inaugural event in Miami.
"I'm so proud of the fighters tonight and everything that they put on the line, the crowd was great, it was such a great show," stated Perry, before adding that there's "more to come" from his exciting new promotion.
"We've got to go back to the drawing board, I've got to look at things, I've got to look at the whole card again – I thought the heavyweight fight was great, I would have liked to see more power-punches, maybe a different mix-up in matches."
"It felt like MMA vs MMA tonight in a boxing ruleset and I would like to see more boxing vs MMA, MMA vs boxing, boxer vs boxer, MMA vs MMA – to see what we can get out of the fighters."
Given how the event was able to capture the attention of the combat sports world on just a few days' notice, Perry knows that there's also plenty of room to improve.
"There were still some great moments tonight, and it made me interested to see what I could do in there… I know the world will be excited about this [type of event]."
UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones was also in attendance for Dirty Boxing Championship's debut show, with 'Bones' hailing the incredible post-UFC success that Perry has found.
"I'm actually very proud of Mike Perry, his post-UFC career has been very impressive, his professionalism, I mean he didn't miss a beat with the announcing of the show.
"As fighters, that's the type of stuff that I look up to, seeing the guy transition from athlete to businessman and the Mike Perry business is booming, it's really cool to witness."
Mike Perry targets a 'great matchup' in early 2025 for his return to action
After scoring five consecutive wins in BKFC, Mike Perry's career resurgence came to a temporary halt in July when he was stopped by Jake Paul in the sixth round of their boxing showdown.
Now, 'Platinum' is keen to return to action in early 2025 so that he can silence his naysayers once and for all.
"I'm just ready to get back in there and show the world, after all the bulls*** they were speaking, what I'm capable of in a great matchup [in] one of my preferred weight classes and bare-knuckle.
"It's the toughest of the tough and I look forward to getting back in there soon, I'm hoping early next year," stated Perry, before teasing that he'd love to test himself against Yoel Romero, who scored a brutal KO in the main event of Dirty Boxing's debut.
"I'm so grateful man, and seeing those rulesets tonight, I would have loved to get in there – I would love for Yoel to punch me with that left uppercut… That was incredible, I would love that punch to my face, tasty like candy sometimes, I'm just ready to get back in there."
