Khamzat Chimaev could finally be set for his first UFC title fight after exciting fans online with some cryptic posts.
Following his extremely impressive win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 308 this past October, Khamzat Chimaev hoped that the win would be enough to leapfrog Sean Strickland for a middleweight title shot.
With that, the current 185lb king, Dricus Du Plessis made it clear that he would ‘100%’ prefer to defend his title against ‘Borz’ next instead of rematching Strickland.

Despite that, UFC CEO Dana White continued to remain coy following UFC 308 on who will receive the next middleweight title fight, having previously stated that it would be Strickland.
However, with ‘Stillknocks’ having now made his preference clear, the UFC has seemingly paused their plans as they were originally looking to have Du Plessis headline UFC 312 in Sydney, but Strickland stated that he will refuse to fight in Australia.
Chimaev recently revealed that he already has contractual obligations with the promotion to attend UFC 312 fight week as a guest fighter, where he will take part in fan meet and greets and several other activities.
The biggest criticism ‘Borz’ has faced over the past few years, is that he is nowhere near active enough as a fighter, with one of the reasons being because of his inability to attain a visa to fight in the United States over the past few years.
However, following Donald Trump’s re-election as the President of the United States, Chimaev’s career could see a huge boost and he has cryptically teased online this Monday morning that his title fight could be set, thanks to Trump.
The 30-year-old first posted an image of a hungry-looking Wolf with no caption attached. He then followed it up with a photo of President Trump and tagged Dricus Du Plessis in the post with eye emojis, which he has now deleted.
Sean Strickland continues to tease that he is next, not Khamzat Chimaev
Since losing the title to Du Plessis back in January, Strickland has only gone on to pick up one win since, with it being an extremely lackluster performance against Paulo Costa at UFC 302.
Because of that, the large majority of the UFC fanbase believes that Strickland should have to wait for Chimaev to fight for the title first, before getting another middleweight title fight.
However, the outspoken middleweight has continued to tease that he is extremely close to securing an official date for his rematch against the South African.
“We’re almost locked in,” Strickland responded to a fan who asked if he had signed a contract to fight Du Plessis yet.
